The Canadian Farmer Writers’ Federation held its 2017 awards banquet in Quebec City on Saturday night. The banquet wraps up the annual three-day conference, which hosts agricultural communicators from across the country.
The RealAgriculture team took home an armful of awards. Kelvin Heppner won gold in the audio category for his report chronicling Manitoba farmers encountering Somali refugees entering Canada – Somali Refugees Walking Across Manitoba Farm Fields.
RealAgriculture also won silver in the same category for the RealAg Book Club, which features Bernard Tobin and Shaun Haney interviewing Tim Caulfield, author of Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything? The book club series launched in 2016. In this episode, Caulfield talks about what happens when celebrity culture and science clash, and the implications for agriculture.
Video editor extraordinaire Jason Stroeve and Tobin were winners in the Electronic Media Visual category. They won the silver award for their work with Tom Wolf and Jason Deveau for Spray Tips Special Edition: Is Your Boom Too High?
RealAg contributor Owen Roberts was also an award winner. He won gold in the Daily Press Reporting category for his Toronto Star feature article: Special E-delivery Down on the Farm.
CFWF’s membership includes around 350 agricultural journalists, broadcasters and communicators from across Canada.
