Power meets technology in Massey Ferguson 6S Series tractors

Farmers will find power, intuitive controls, and advanced technology in new Massey Ferguson MF 6S Series tractors, which delivers up to 180 hp — the highest from a four-cylinder on the market.

The Massey Ferguson S Series tractors include the MF 5S, MF 6S, MF 7S and MF 8S Series. The 6S Series was rolled out at the National Farm Machinery Show last week in Louisville, Kentucky. AGCO marketing product specialist Adam Sills notes that the the 6S tractors are available in four models based on horsepower — 145, 155, 165 and 180 — and features a 4.9-litre AGCO Power engine.

Operators can choose from two transmission options to meet their particular power requirements. The Dyna-6 transmission offers maximum fuel efficiency through 24 forward and reverse speeds up to 31 mph. The Dyna-VT transmission allows operators to select the exact speed without compromising engine rpm for optimal output in any situation. AGCO notes that the 6S Series also delivers outstanding towing capacity, and an increased gross vehicle weight of up to 27,558 pounds helps the tractors excel with heavy loads and demanding implements.

Sills says the 6S Series is a good fit for a range of farming operations, including livestock. This power is concentrated in a compact footprint that gives hay producers power and torque with a 900-pound-lighter footprint than comparable six-cylinder models for minimal soil impact. The tractors are also a good fit for silage hay and 5-foot-wide round baling operations. A balanced power-to-weight ratio efficiently handles heavy hay balers while a 15-foot, 7-inch turning radius provides maneuverability in the field or the feedlot. (Story continues after the video)

Consistent with the overall design first introduced with the MF 8S Series, the cab layout uses simple colour coding on all controls for quick identification and easy operation. Deluxe models also feature a new ergonomic armrest with the customizable lever and multifunction joystick for intuitive, effortless control of all major functions. The optional Datatronic 5 terminal features an easy-to-navigate digital dashboard that can be customized for operator preference. This technology makes operation quick and easy, allowing producers to change setups on hydraulics, transmission, and engine from one convenient terminal for maximum efficiency in any application.

For added versatility with loading applications, Sills notes that the MF 6S Series is available with a fully integrated loader. The tractor boasts a lifting capacity of up to 5,070 pounds and a height of over 13 feet, making it ideal for heavy duty applications in hay and livestock operations.
