A brand-new high speed discer series from Brandt is “highly configurable” starting with seven different sizes, from 16 feet up to 45 feet. Two different disc sizes — 20-inch or 22-inch — and three different styles, smooth, U-notch, or fluted, add to customization.

“As far as the finishing options we have three different types of finishing options from cage roller to rubber roller, or the spring roller,” says Scott Lessmeister, regional sales manager for Western Canada at Brandt Agricultural Products.

“Ideally you’re going to be running at 10 to 14 miles/hour, not unlike other high-speed discs on the market,” says Lessmeister. “Generally, what we find is the faster you can go, the better job you’re going to do with this machine.”

As for horsepower, Lessmeister says that in ideal conditions, 20 horsepower per foot of machine is the target — at 10 to 15 horsepower, the machine can still be operated, but at slower speeds.

The series is designed for residue management, seedbed preparation, filling in ruts, or reclaiming slough-bottoms, says Lessmeister.

Disc-spacing is the same on each model and Brandt has gone for steel for hydraulic lines. The company has added a suspension system option for the rollers, reducing shock on the machine if rocks or other obstacles are hit.
