New MacDon header comes in five widths, up to 50-feet
MacDon’s new FD 200 series headers boasts plenty of features, but has aluminum components to keep the weight down.
The new line-up comes in 30- and 35-foot widths (with optional double knife), and 40-, 45-, and 50-foot widths, says Joel Woods, North American sales manager at MacDon Industries.
The 50-foot header is the largest they’ve made to date.
With 20 per cent more capacity, by going from a 42-inch draper to a 50-inch draper, the FD series is much less likely to get plugged, says Woods. MacDon has also made minor changes to improve feeding, with angled fingers on reel ends and crop deflectors.
The line-up also has 30 per cent more speed, due to increased sickle and guard size and up to 70 per cent more flex. On the larger models, an optional triple reel is available for the 40-footer, and it comes standard on the 45-foot and 50-foot models.
“Triple reel benefits would be visibility in the front,” says Woods. “It really cleans that front end for visibility.” Also on the feeding side, the triple reels improve feeding and it mirrors the flexing point.
Some demos were released this year, but officially the FD 200 series header hits the market next year. The new header line-up will fit on any major brand of combine, says Woods.
