GSI’s new EVO 50 grain bin line has fewer bolts on bigger bins

How often is it that an interview gets conducted inside a grain bin? Well, it happens when that bin is empty, for starters, and when it’s being showcased at Farm Progress Show at Decatur, Illinois.

Greg Trame, director of global product development at GSI was recently joined by Kara Oosterhuis in the aforementioned bin to talk about a new product from GSI, the EVO 50.

“EVO 50 is our new line of grain bin that we’re launching in the market, starting January of next year,” says Trame. “It’s the largest, most expansive, four inch corrugated, product line that we’ve ever had at GSI.”

The new product line covers everything in size from the 50,000 bushel range all the way up to 2 million bushels of storage.

The bolt pattern on these bins has changed and Trame says that the new design is more efficient, creating a strong product, all the while using the least amount of bolts to build it.

Interlaced laminated sheet also allows for fewer bolts — as bins get larger and larger, normally most companies need to add more bolts, which takes longer to build, and also increases the opportunities for leaks, says Trame.

“With EVO 50, we’ve changed the way that we orient the side-wall sheets when we bolt them together, and by interlacing the lamination, we’re putting one from each side in between each other, we didn’t have to add any extra bolts as the bins got bigger,” says Trame.
