The Do More Ag Foundation has set a fundraising goal of $5 million to launch a national, bilingual, 24-hour agriculture-focused support line.

Adelle Stewart, executive director of Do More Ag Foundation, says the anonymous phone-in line, called AgTalk, is a response to the industry’s call for national support accessible from anywhere at any time of day.

Stewart explains that the line will be run by mental health professionals who have also completed an agriculture literacy program, called Ag Culture, so that farmers and ranchers that call in will hear from someone with the all-important context required of the situation.

It’s important to note that the line will be completely anonymous and confidential, and Stewart says that a key point of the line is that it is intended as support, not just in crisis, but as a preventative measure with tangible next steps.

Each call will wrap up with what to do next, Stewart says, either connecting someone to their health region, or resources to access, or how to set up an appointment with someone who can help further.
