Ontario Federation of Agriculture announces second year of Feeding Your Future initiative

Addressing the growing labour and talent shortage in Canadian agriculture is going to require a multi-pronged approach of awareness, education and training, and connection between job seekers and job opportunities.

The Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA) is building off a successful first year of the Feeding Your Future initiative with a full year of virtual career fairs and education webinars set.

This second phase of the initiative is made possible through the coming together of several groups and organizations, and a grant of over $600,000 from the federal-provincial Canadian Agricultural Partnership.

Peggy Brekveld, president of the OFA, says that the future is bright for Ontario’s agriculture sector. Even through the restrictions and challenges of the pandemic, Ontario’s food and farming sector has grown and provided food for the province.

The Feeding Your Future platform is a virtual networking and connecting platform, with links to webinars, videos, virtual career fairs, and more. Brekveld says that there are also resources for companies looking to provide safety awareness and training, so that job seekers might better understand what jobs entail and how to work safely.
