Which grand prize would you choose: cattle er’ cash?

HALO Air Ambulance, based out of Medicine Hat, Alta., is drumming up funding through its first annual lottery. The prizes this year include standard early bird prizes of cash, but the final prize is a little different than a car or a showhome.

On offer for the grand prize is $50,000 or the equivalent value of bred heifers from HALO’s presenting sponsor, Highline Angus.

HALO Air Ambulance has a service area of over 50,000 square kilometres, with over 239,000 residents, plus visitors to Southern Alberta and Southwest Saskatchewan.

The medi-vac service is run by a 12 member volunteer board of directors and three paid positions: an executive director, funding director, and an administrative assistant.

With the addition of a twin-engine helicopter in 2018, HALO gained a five-fold increase in service calls which came with higher operational costs. With the onset of the pandemic hindering in-person fundraising events, and a lack of sustainable funding from the provincial government, HALO relies on community support to continue its services.

Tickets for the HALO Cattle Er’ Cash lottery are on sale now, and currently, $228,200 has been raised. Ticket sales end November 23 and the draw date for the grand prize will be November 24, 2021. You can find more info here.
