Despite a small pause in larger units in Canada, overall farm tractor unit sales are continuing their growth across North America in October, according to the latest data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).

In Canada, October tractor sales saw major growth in the sub-40 hp range, which carried overall tractor sales up to a 12.8 per cent growth for the month, making it 9.6 per cent year-to-date. Canada saw a bit of a decline in the 40-100hp and 100+ hp units of 1 per cent, and 3.3 per cent, respectively.

The report also states that U.S. total farm tractor sales rose 18.1 per cent in October, compared to 2019, and U.S. self-propelled combine sales were up 14.8 per cent. For the third month in a row, U.S. four-wheel-drive units grew 22.8 per cent, putting year-to-date segment sales in the black for the first time this year — up 1 per cent.

Total year-to-date farm tractors out the door in the U.S. are up 15.1 per cent, while combine sales are up 5.5 per cent.

Curt Blades, senior vice president of ag services at AEM says they are glad to see the aggregate North American tractor and combine sales stay above the 5-year trend line.

“These latest numbers, combined with the recent bump in commodity prices, point to the potential for a strong finish to equipment sales for 2020,” says Blades.
