Remembering Canada Fondly: A Conversations with Hartmut van Lengerich

Shaun Haney is in Germany this week as a guest of Bayer, celebrating 20 years of the company’s InVigor brand.

The world is big place, sure, but when it comes to agriculture, it’s actually quite small. As people move up the ladder within companies, they frequently get to spend time in other countries to build experience.

Hartmut van Lengerich was in Canada from 2004 to 2009 as the Canadian president for Bayer CropScience. Hartmut speaks very fondly of his Canadian experience. At Bayer’s 20th Anniversary of InVigor party, Hartmut shares some pictures with the Canadian delegation of farmers from across Western Canada.

Hartmut is now the head of cereals and fungicides globally for Bayer CropScience and is back based in Germany. He is also committing time to the Bayer/Monsanto acquisition with other high-level Bayer executives. I was able to sit down with Hartmut and chat about his time in Canada, the future of hybrid and GM wheat, the difference between Canadian and German farmers, and the acquisition of Monsanto.
