Christmas on Old Petty Harbour Road

Merry ChristmasWe’re proud of our team here at Real Agriculture — we’re an enthusiastic and passionate bunch, but did you know we’re not an ag-media-one-trick pony? You’ve heard one team member’s farmer rendition of “Santa, Baby”, and now our own Bern Tobin has shared the song below.

Bern’s family, if you haven’t guessed by the accent, hails from Newfoundland, and singing and song writing runs in his blood, right along with farming. The song below, “Old Petty Harbour Road,” was written by Bern’s uncle Tom Shortall. Written in the 1950s, it tells the story of the farming community on Old Petty Harbour Road and how all the folks would come together on Christmas night.

Recorded last year as a tribute to his uncle who had recently passed away, Bern thought the Real Agriculture audience might like to hear it, too, and, well we agreed. (You have to hang on a bit to hear how mastitis in a milk cow can possibly be in a Christmas song…)

Take a listen — and to you and yours, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
