Corn School : The Variables of the Fall 2011 Corn Market – Moe Agostino, Farms.com

What will the corn market look like as we head into harvest? What are those key factors that will affect the market between now and Christmas? Weather is one of those elements always in play as temperatures threaten to impact quality in areas of the U.S.. Demand is another factor keeping analysts on their toes as they watch the global economic situation play out, particularly in Europe as countries like Greece teeter on the brink of default. The USDA seems to be sticking to their guns keeping that demand number down as they speculate on the outlook of the U.S. economy. Another key issue is existing stocks vs expected yields. Harvest numbers will tell that tale for sure. Regardless of those numbers, seed stocks are tight and may put the brakes on any boost in production.

In this episode of the Corn School, I talk with Moe Agostino, Senior Market Analyst with Farms.com and discuss the impact all of these factors could have on the market and what farmers can do to put themselves in a safe place within it.
