What to Consider When Buying a Grain Cart
In the United States grain carts have been very popular for quite some time. In Canada they are really catching on and becoming more common. As explained to me by Shawn Berry, Territory Manager, Unverferth, the grain cart provides increased productivity to the farm because the combine never stops to unload the hopper. Unloading on the go into a grain cart allows more acres to be harvested in a day.
I know of several farmers that have them and they are extremely pleased with the results and efficiencies gained. In talking to Shawn Berry and several farmers around the Brent booth, it seems that the ideal combination is a cart that can keep up with three to four combines. Shawn stressed that the cart driver is not the bottom guy on the harvest crew totem pole. The driver has to try and keep up with the machines while also dumping into the trucks at the end of the field.
